The main curtain is a big piece of fabric, often red colored, which helps mask the stage while the audience sits down, and dancers warm up on the stage minutes before the performance. The curtain isn't always closed, so that the audience can slowly dive into the atmosphere of the ballet before the beginning of the show.

The curtain also closes up the show.
