Technical
director
The technical director’s main jobs are:
Coordinating teams responsible for sound, light, stage, costume, and prop management... in order to ensure show's quality based on what the choreographer wants. He makes sure that each technician, no matter what their job is, prepares a cue list for each ballet. The cue list is like a technical or a musical sheet which explains in every little detail and for each second what operation the technician needs to handle (for example, start the music or the smoke at the right moment...).
Being responsible for the safety of technicians, artists, and the audience.
Tracking the creation of sets, costumes, props.... To do so, he acts as the link between the artistic, the administrative and the technical teams to make sure every wish of the choreographer is doable.
Just like each member of the technical team, a technical manager can be recognized during the show at his all-black outfit (so that the audience can't notice him), headlight often and phone or walkie-talkie.
