Tour managers mainly contribute to implement performance tours in France and abroad. They collaborate with artistic managers to organize transportation and accommodation of approx. 30 people: dancers, ballet masters, technicians. They also manage technical equipment (set, lights, costumes…) transportation to the theatres. They must complete administrative paperwork required for traveling and giving a performance abroad: contracts, visas, customs, insurances…
Sometimes, they have to handle unpredicted events such as train or plane cancellation, boat delays… and find solutions quickly while staying calm.
The story
“Once, on tour, a container holding dancers’ costumes and props got stuck offshore near the United States… We had to find a solution very quickly while the dancers were travelling by plane. When they arrived, the dancers went to a shopping center to buy makeshift “costumes” while we had to explain to the theatre – in English – how our plans had changed… anyway, it was a real mess to handle!”
